StartUp Borneo brings together entrepreneurs, corporates, investors, incubators, educational institutions, and government, to promote startup culture in Borneo

Kuching, 25 JAN: A community for social entrepreneurship, StartUp Borneo is to be launched this year with first of its kind technology and entrepreneurship initiatives in Sarawak. Leveraging on its cooperation with research and education institutions in Sarawak together with local and foreign startup ecosystem players, StartUp Borneo brings together entrepreneurs, corporates, investors, incubators, educational institutions, and government, to promote startup culture in Borneo. The initiatives is expected to provide entrepreneurs with access to mentorship, funding, talent and a community of like-minded entrepreneurs.

According to Deputy Secretary of StartUp Borneo, Ting Tze Sheng, “StartUp Borneo’s mission is to get communities in Borneo to participate in Sarawak’s rapid development transformation by providing entrepreneurs or startups with opportunity to access high quality mentorship, funding, talent and also a platform to shape the future of digital economy and technology champions in the region.” StartUp Borneo is planning to conduct 3 to 8 tracks of startup challenge this year. StartUp Borneo have also started engaging government agencies, industries and startup ecosystem players such as Malaysian Industry-Government Group for Higher Technology (MiGHT), FinTech4Good LLC, RESONICS Consultancy/RESONICS Global Sdn Bhd, Umadx Online (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, Vybe Engineering Sdn Bhd, Malaysian Association of ASEAN Young Entrepreneurs (MAAYE), K-HEC Sdn Bhd, and CooServ Travel and Tour Sdn Bhd. More information on StartUp Borneo’s programme is expected to be announced as early as March.

Starting from 15th February, RESONICS Consultancy/RESONICS Global Sdn Bhd in collaboration with FinTech4Good LLC is inviting all blockchain startups to apply to a Global Blockchain Acceleration Programme. Selected blockchain startups will receive special invitations to the Global Blockchain Acceleration Programme or “DigitalX100” which will be hosted this year in Hong Kong, Washington DC, Moscow, and Kuala Lumpur. A 2-day Blockchain conference was also organized on 24th – 25th January in Kuala Lumpur and a fellow Sarawak’s technologist and industrialist Abdul Qaiyum Alidin, Chief Technical Officer of RESONICS Consultancy/RESONICS Global Sdn Bhd was featured presenting on “Blockchain: Supporting The Growth Of Smart Cities And Industry 4.0 In East Malaysia Region.” The Blockchain conference has featured a list of well recognized international speakers and attended by more than 100 participants from across Malaysia and Asian region.
