HIPMI KALBAR and StartUp Borneo To Collaborate On Startup Community Development In Malaysia and Indonesia

PONTIANAK (20 April 2018): StartUp Borneo first visits abroad to the neighboring country, Indonesia as the preferred first choice for its international engagement. Apart from the geographical state of the country which is adjacent to Malaysia, there is also a high value of entrepreneurship and creativity from the People of the Republic of Indonesia.

Official visit by StartUp Borneo to the West Kalimantan, Pontianak Province was welcomed by the Association of Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association of West Kalimantan (Persatuan Himpunan Pengusaha Muda Indonesia Kalimantan Barat), HIPMI KALBAR, and many potential new collaborations explored by the two parties would be established especially in empowering Startup entrepreneurs in Borneo. The visit was attended by the StartUp Borneo delegates comprising of Abdul Qaiyum Alidin, Chairman, Mohd Nizam bin Ajim, Head of Corporate Relations and Foreign Relations Division, Mohd Safiq Saibi, Logistics Division.

The collaboration between StartUp Borneo and HIPMI KALBAR is very much needed especially in creating and nurturing potential startups in Malaysia and Indonesia. Chairman of HIPMI KALBAR, Ibu Denia Yurianti Abdussamad, welcomed this proposal and cooperation to develop the startups of the two countries. Representative to the Chairman of HIPMI KALBAR, Ibu Ai Sukma also introduced StartUp Borneo to several young Indonesian entrepreneurs who have been recognized by the European and Asian countries such as Japan and Korea.

One example is the success of Pak Uray Tiar Fahrozi which has been recognized by Canada in developing large-scale organic crops and livestock products. He developed organic cultivation and farming that is capable of generating very productive agricultural products and has been proven to be better than the current approach being used mostly in the industry. He has also been invited to Canada to share his knowledge and showcased his startup project at the international level. StartUp Borneo delegation also visited the Borneo SkyCam team which capable of building a Drone that can fly for 16 hours non-stop with the use of solar energy and this is in line with the initiative by StartUp Borneo in promoting technology development related to Renewable Energy.

According to StartUp Borneo chairman, Abdul Qaiyum Alidin “The world needs more champion in innovation and entrepreneurship. We see huge potential for Malaysia and Indonesia, so building startup community as the catalyst for cities in Borneo is the first requirement in adopting the Digital Economy and this will prepare the people’s mindset and push the concept and development of Smart City and Industry 4.0 implementation across Borneo. HIPMI KALBAR, StartUp Borneo together with its strategic partners welcome the vision paved by the Chief Minister of Sarawak, YAB Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg who is embracing the Digital Economy agenda as the key component for Sarawak development.”

Abdul Qaiyum is positive in the cooperation established and planning to further expand StartUp Borneo’s presence across Borneo especially by working in close collaboration with HIPMI KALBAR. The visit ends on Tuesday, April 24 and it was concluded as a successful working visit for StartUp Borneo and potentially to create many impactful outcomes for Malaysia and Indonesia in the future.
