Sarawak, West Kalimantan youths jointly explore tech, e-commerce opportunities
KUCHING, August 18: Aspiring young entrepreneurs in Sarawak has forged an understanding with their counterpart in West Kalimantan to jointly explore growth opportunities involving technology and e-commerce.

Sarawak’s StartUp Borneo inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Himpunan Pengusaha Muda Indonesia-Kalimantan Barat (Hipmi Kalbar) here today for this purpose. The signing was held at the Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC) Sarawak Region office.
StartUp Borneo chairman Abdul Qaiyum Alidin said his members mounted an economic recce to Pontianak recently, and the MoU was a result of that trip.
“With the signing of the MoU, we will be collaborating in more activities between Sarawak and West Kalimantan youths in how we can develop both regions in terms of technology and e-conomy,” he told reporters covering the event, which also featured StartUp Borneo’s second prepitching initiative.

Hipmi Kalbar chairwoman Denia Yunirati Abdusamad, who was present with several delegates, said she hoped to see a lot of exchange in knowledge and technology expertise between both sides, starting this year.
“We, at Hipmi Kalbar, also welcome any collaboration from StartUp Borneo,” she said.
Meanwhile, MPC Board of Directors member Datuk Abang Abdul Karim Tun Openg, said he believed the tie-up between Sarawak and Kalimantan was mutually beneficial. Furthermore, collaborations in technology and e-commerce would be good for Sarawak as it was in the midst of developing its digital economy.
“I look forward to this collaboration in many ways, not just the economy and training but also our cultures,” said Abang Abdul Karim.
