Empowering the Economic Prosperity of Youth and Digital Business

Chief Executive Officer of the Bumiputera Agenda Leading Unit (TERAJU) Md Silmi Abd Rahman was visited and attended a sharing session at D-Virtual Park, Malaysia’s first virtual reality theme park with hologram technology in Malaysia including a digital concept incubator center for entrepreneurs, in Kota Samarahan, Sarawak.

Also present at the session were Serba Dinamik Holdings Berhad Director, Datuk Abdul Kadier Sahib and Prof. Ir. Dr. Al-Khalid Othman, Deputy Chief Scientist of Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA).

D-Virtual Park is a joint venture between Serba Dinamik Holdings Bhd and the hub Sarawak-based startup Borneo Borneo will create access and provides a great network for beginners in the digital technology segment to further and strengthening the youth economy in Sarawak.

For a start, D-Virtual Park will benefit students from UITM Sarawak Samarahan Campus, University Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) and Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak a population of over 20,000 students. Therefore, D-Virtual Park has great potential to grow and to be able to give a lot of encouragement to many students at University level to become an entrepreneur while learning through this platform.

According to Chief Executive Officer of the Bumiputera Agenda Leading Unit (TERAJU), Md Silmi Abd Rahman, the D-Virtual Park idea is in line with the government’s commitment to drive economic growth through digital transformation and make Malaysia as the Industry 4.0 hub in the Southeast Asian region.

Moving on to the Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR4.0), TERAJU is striving to create opportunities in high-tech, high-value and impactful sectors such as sustainable, digital, aerospace, technology and trends such as Internet of Things (IoT), robotics, virtual reality (VR) and artificial intelligence (AI).

In empowering and providing opportunities for youth to engage in the digital economy, TERAJU has also established the Startup Scheme program. The Bumiputera Entrepreneur (SUPERB) in 2014 aims to identify competitive of the young Bumiputera entrepreneurs with innovative ideas or products.

For SUPERB 2019, six themes have been selected namely the digital economy, Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR4.0), an industrial and economic enterprise, creative, arts and health industry, food innovation and farming and agribusiness. The SUPERB 2019 winner of 26 will receive a business grant of up to RM500,000 to develop their business idea.

Meanwhile, under the Sarawak Bumiputera Entrepreneur Development Fund (DPUB) program, TERAJU has allocated funds for the development of community-based innovation projects for the B40 group in collaboration with Universities and Local Government Agencies in Sarawak with the objective to increase the income of the commons in line with the Mutual Vision. 2030 (WKB 2030).

On this occasion, he also held a work visit to the site of one of the projects under the FAST Facilitation Fund program, the construction project of Hotel Serapi, a 49-room boutique hotel located between Jalan Kulas and Jalan Haji Taha, Kuching Sarawak.

With the help of the Facilitation Fund and the completion of the project, Hotel Serapi was able to offer employment opportunities to 13 local Bumiputera residents as well as helping the market local products produced by micro entrepreneurs in the nearby lobby of the hotel.
