Nov 14, 2018 Winning entrepreneurs walk away with RM15,000 from Shell Malaysia and TEGAS. Kuching – Five entrepreneurs who were announced winners of the 2018 Sarawak Shell LiveWIRE programme were awarded a RM15,000 seed grant from Shell Malaysia and Tabung Ekonomi Gagasan Anak Bumiputera Sarawak (TEGAS) Digital Innovation Hub, today. The winners were chosen after going through a series of workshops and a business model assessment competition. Alongside the seed grant, the winners were provided with mentoring and coaching support from Shell LiveWIRE facilitators for the next three years to assist them in transforming their ideas to full-fledged businesses. Last straw for single-use plastics Every year, 8 million metric tons of plastic currently arrive in our oceans, which is equivalent to five grocery bags filled with plastic for every foot of coastline in the world. Single-use plastics, or disposable plastics, are used only once before they are thrown away or recycled. These items include plastic bags, straws, coffee stirrers, soda and water bottles and most food packaging and they end up in our oceans and waterways. We produce roughly 300 million tons of plastic each year and half of it is disposable. Yet, world-wide only 10-13 per cent of plastic items are recycled. The Malaysia-based investor firm said the fund seeks to provide investments to unicorn startups Kenanga Investors Berhad (“Kenanga Investors”), a subsidiary of Kenanga Investment Bank, announced that it has launched Kenanga Global Unicorn 1 (KGU1), which aims for medium-term returns by investing in unicorn companies. The fund feeds into the Ericsenz-K2 Global Unicorn Fund, which involves two VC firms (Ericsenz and K2 Global) heading the investment strategy. It will be managed by Ericsenz Capital, a Singapore-based venture capital and private equity firm. The VC typically invests in high growth middle-market companies primarily within the technology, healthcare, consumer, and energy sector. For K2 Global, the Silicon Valley venture capital firm will help with accessing late-stage private technology companies located in tech hubs. PeKA B40 is well-received by members of the public.-NSTP/FAIZ ANUAR. KUCHING: New healthcare scheme for the low-income group, PeKA B40, has been well-received in Sarawak and saw 46 private clinics registered as panels over the past two weeks. Sarawak Health Department director Dr Jamilah Hashim said among the clinics that have registered statewide were Klinik Kesihatan Sim and Klinik Yee in Miri, Klinik Perubatan Teddy and Union Clinic in Bau. Jamilah said the scheme, which is in effect yesterday, focused on cooperation between public and private sectors to aid the B40 group to enjoy a wider range of healthcare facilities, especially services by private general practitioners.
