KUCHING: Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan led a Sarawak delegation to visit a solar manufacturing plant in Shanghai, China yesterday.
The plant is one of the top global producers in the
country’s solar industry and has operations worldwide, including in Malaysia, Portugal and the United States.
During the visit, the delegation was briefed on the plant’s operation, which adopts the latest technology in producing high standard solar products.
Awang Tengah, who is also International Trade and Industry, Industrial Terminal and Entrepreneur Development Minister, said he was impressed with the factory operations and its research and development facility.
He pointed out that the visit to the plant is crucial as it enables the ministry to better understand the solar industry while at the same time attract more solar industry players to Sarawak, which also has a vibrant solar industry.
Awang Tengah also took the opportunity to share with the solar manufacturing plant officials on business and investment opportunities in Sarawak, as a destination they can consider expanding their operations into outside of China.
He informed them on the state’s abundant natural resources, business-friendly policies as well as attractive incentives offered by both the federal and state governments.
Among those in the delegation were assistant ministers of International Trade and Industry, Industrial Terminal and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Naroden Majais and Datuk Malcolm Mussen Lamoh, Ministry of International Trade and Industry, Industrial Terminal and Entrepreneur Development permanent secretary Datu Liaw Soon Eng, Regional Corridor Development Authority (Recoda) chief executive officer Datu Ismawi Ismuni and ministry officials.
