New Tourism Minister pledges to put needs of country and people first

KUCHING: Newly appointed Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri has assured that she will give her utmost commitment to put the needs of the country and people first.

She said her main focus will be on delivery with the notion of accountability to the Rakyat.

“I am aware that many industry players, especially in the tourism sector and airline industries are facing trying times.

“As the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, I am committed to coming up with effective solutions and long-term economic measures to manage our tourism sector better,” she said in a statement issued last night.

The Batang Sadong MP said Malaysia today, faces grave challenges on both the global and local front.

“I am fully aware that this journey will not be a smooth one. With the apparent impact of Covid-19 on world economies, businesses and routines are severely and adversedly affected.

“Coupled with the downward trend of crude oil prices, it is clear that we have to work harder to overcome the challenges ahead.”

However, she believed that the country’s economy is resilient enough to face these challenges.

“With this new Cabinet line up, we shall take advantage of all opportunities available to persevere through thìs crisis,” she said.

She thanked Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg for their trusts and confidence in her appointment as the new Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture.

“I accepted this appointment with utmost gratitude, and shall endeavour with great determination to continue serving the people of Malaysia regardless of race, religion and political alliances.”

“In the course of running this office, I shall continue to uphold the principles of fairness and equity,” she said.

She stressed that Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) shall remain focused and steadfast in its course of ensuring the state’s constitutional rights and the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) are preserved and safeguarded.

“To my constituents in Batang Sadong, I am still the same Nancy Shukri you know, and will continue to serve you in my capacity as the Member of Parliament of Batang Sadong,” she said.
