KUCHING: The City Hall of Kuching North (DBKU) will put up a digital board to display the showtimes of Darul Hana Musical Fountain within the next two months.

Datuk Wee Hong Seng

In disclosing this yesterday, DBKU Commissioner Datuk Wee Hong Seng said: “The (need for a) signboard on the timetable (to be displayed in the area) has been discussed. We are now in the process of awarding to the contractor for erecting the digital display board.”

“We in DBKU must follow procedure. (The display board will be put up) within one or two months,” he said when contacted by The Borneo Post yesterday.

He was responding to recent comments by Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii, who claimed that hundreds of people had been disappointed by the musical fountain for ‘its no show’ during the festive and holiday break last week.

According to Wee, DBKU has informed the community of the change of schedule during the Ramadan month from May 6 to June 4 through the media.

He explained that the showtime was changed during Ramadan month out of respect for Muslims who prayed in Darul Hana Mosque and other suraus at the other side of the river”.

“I am sure no one should question this mutual respect, something we Sarawakians are very proud of,” he said.

To a question, Wee assured that “the show is still on” but did not rule out the possibility of “some minor faults with the lighting or nozzle”.

“The musical fountain is something new for DBKU in its operation. There may be some minor problems and issues. We appreciate people’s understanding and willingness to bear with us for the time being.”

He called upon individuals including all the elected representatives to contact the city hall for information or clarification should there be any question pertaining to the musical fountain in the near future.

“Constructive feedback given through the proper channel would help us improve faster and better. If there is anything, please refer to DBKU Facebook page or call DBKU. We appreciate the concern of YB Dr Yii,” added Wee.

During Ramadan month, only one show was available at 10.30pm. The schedule has reverted to normal.

Darul Hana Musical Fountain offers two shows from Mondays to Thursdays at 8.30pm-8.45pm and 9.30pm-9.45pm, with three shows from Fridays to Sundays at 8.30pm-8.45pm, 9.30pm-9.45pm and 10.30pm-10.45pm.
